Playing with Acrylics

"Offshore," 11 x 14 acrylic on paper

Experimenting with acrylics, this one on gessoed watercolor paper. Since this medium dries so fast, every brushstroke decision is immediately recorded; I can't second-guess and noodle away until the image is gradually transformed into something unintended. At the same time, changes are easily made after the paint dries. Experimenting without worrying about outcomes is yummy.

Re-visiting Pastel

6 x 12 pastel on paper
After taking a 15-year hiatus from pastel painting, I've fallen in love with the medium again. Feels like learning to paint all over again. The sticks themselves are irresistible, and the self-delusion is similar to oil painting: instead of thinking "if I only had the right brush, surface, etc.," I'm now thinking "if I only had the right color, texture, etc."
